When we decided to move to Italy we knew we wanted a simple, rural way of life. It was important for us to integrate into the local community and do as much as we could to be useful citizens.

When you choose to stay at Casa del Sole you will be pleased to know that absolutely everything has been sourced locally. All the renovations have been designed to keep the original character of the buildings. Wherever possible, ecologically sound methods have been used.

For example, all the hot water in summer is provided by a solar system and in winter by the wood burning stove. We manage our own woodland and ensure that we do not damage our environment.

We use as little electricity as possible and encourage our guests to do the same.

Our water supply is from a stream, therefore is to be treated with respect (otherwise the houses further down the hill won't get any water!).

At Casa del Sole we grow as much produce as we can, everything is strictly organic, and you are welcome to buy whatever produce is available.

We would encourage you to shop in the local area and at local shops. This way the money you spend goes directly into the community. Tuscany may be the most famous Italian destination but on the whole the people of this rural area are very poor.
